My OVI store Experience

At first when the OVI store was first introduced i have a lotta hopes like that will be a contender to Apple App store. But at the start OVI store didnt performed that well. I was shocked to see many personalizations in the OVI store. I thought its a wallpaper and ringtones store or a App Store lol ?!! . The personalization was priced at 3Euros and more. And we Indians just think to buy those costly wallpapers.

Then after day by day it increases slowly. There was a blast when OffScreen enters OVI store. Atleast it was a huge comeback for me to visit OVI store. They had some great apps for free. Those guys made the OVI store quite popular among Symbian fifth edition users. Then the big companies made their entrance to OVI store. OVI store reached 3 million downloads in just three months. YAY!! Nokia done it again then the OVI store became quite popular every game and app for Nokia devices made into OVI store rather than public release. The companies like Polarbit made the OVI store a great fun store by giving away some cool games for free.

And now the OVI hits 1.5 million downloads per day. And i can see many companies made a huge profit out of  OVI.

As of April 2010 stats of OVI store

Changes i was looking for such as Five Star Rating, improved search, extra details on what we gonna buy, improvement in reviews are now there in OVI store.

Changes i Needed in OVIStore:

  • Hobby developers are allowed to use OVI Store without entrance charge of 50Euros. Its quite high when a developer releases his work for free by paying 50 Euros.
  • The next big problem is the signing process which costs very high this is need to be taken into concern so that many developers may enter into OVI and make it big.
  • A native app of OVI store rather than webclient in some devices.
  • The OVI store app must notify me if any newupdate for the apps available for the apps i downloaded via OVI.
  • Rather than lotta personlizations things in OVI store Nokia need to concentrate more on Apps.
  • I need to pay the app via PC rather than buying via mobile. In India it becomes double charge for downloading a big app via Edge connection.
  • I heard complaints that some apps are not available via OVI for some countries i hope this will be resolved soon

The OVI store is a huge success to Nokia and i strongly hope it will overtake Apple App store soon. :D ;)

Let us know how OVI store worked for you :) :D
