Simple Trick to enable Twitpic from N9 / N950 Gallery!

Thanks to Ural Khamitov. He just found a simple hack which enables twitpic from N9 / N950 gallery. This hack need superuser permission and nano editor. To enable twitpic from Nokia N9/N950.

1.Open Terminal and enable super user mode

devel-su

password : rootme

2. Then type nano /usr/share/accounts/services/twitter-share.service

3.Open the twitter-share.service file and scroll till you find something like below

<!– <mime>image/*</mime> –>
<!– <mime>video/*</mime> –>

4. Once you find these lines just remove comments from this code and press ctrl on the on-screen keyboard and press X and then press Y and click enter to save the modified file.

5.It should be like the below image after removing the comment lines.

6. Goto Gallery and click share icon to twitpic directly from the gallery

Do let us know your queries in the comment section below.

Note :

Nice! SSH root seems to have been disabled with the last update so I had to do this, http://talk.maemo.org/showpost.php?p=1117886&postcount=5

By the way, how do I get arrow keys to appear? I just have pipe etc instead.

    • Stephen

Swipe horizontally in the console area to change the hotkeys

    • Anonymous

It’s disabled purposely, you don’t use root to do stuff, you just escalate permissions (su/sudo etc).

    • http://lovemynokia.com/ Siraj Soft

Just swipe left or right in terminal to change the buttons above keyboard

  • Keithcyau

    Could someone help me please?
I did the above and the share to Twitter option appears just like the last picture in this article.

However, once I press tweet and it tries to upload the photo, I get a notification saying “1 failed transfer”.

I go to the transfers page and tried to see why it failed, a black screen then appears that says “System Failure – Failed to create request”.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks!

          • Keithcyau

Hi Siraj, the following link is a screenshot. Please note that the screenshot didn’t show a line of code as the display changed after I pulled the keyboard off the screen. The line of code at the bottom of this section of code was

I just checked it . It is correct you sure you saved it correctly the filename must be twitter-share.service. Just cd to the dir and check whether it is same

          • Keithcyau

Yes, still 1.0, awaiting for the update to come through on my carrier in Australia, and I checked the file names too, it’s correct.

          • http://lovemynokia.com/ Siraj Soft

Oh thats bad :( Looks like it is the PR 1.0 problem :(

          • http://lovemynokia.com/ Siraj Soft

You are running PR 1.0 ?

    • http://twitter.com/burnout_pt Sérgio Oliveira

Same here, even after a reboot :/

      • http://lovemynokia.com/ Siraj Soft

You are running PR 1.0 ?

        • Sergio Oliveira

Yes. I guess I’ll be back to waiting for PR1.1

    • http://twitter.com/tobruzh Tobias Brunner

the same problem for me. could it be that it does not work on PR1.0?

      • http://lovemynokia.com/ Siraj Soft

You are running PR 1.0 ?

        • Keithcyau

Yes, still 1.0, awaiting for the update to come through on my carrier in Australia

        • http://twitter.com/tobruzh Tobias Brunner

Yes, because I did not get any PR1.1 update notification until now

          • http://lovemynokia.com/ Siraj Soft

Hi Tobias this trick works only on PR1.1 :-) please wait ti your operator pushes this update

  • http://twitter.com/toninikkanen Toni Nikkanen

Heh, I wonder what else could be enabled by hacking around the service files? Could be tons of disabled nearly-completed features hiding there

    • http://lovemynokia.com/ Siraj Soft

Yeah Toni agree with you. Maybe Nokia just want to release them as a feature in PR 1.2 😛

Hola, donde encuentro la consola en mi N9?

Hello, I find the console in my N9?

    • http://lovemynokia.com/ Siraj Soft

      Hey Carlos ,

You need to activate developer mode first in settings -> security then click install on utilities in the same page after activating developer mode.

  • http://twitter.com/Patje1968 Patrick Prinzie

I type “nano /usr/share/accounts/services/twitter-share.service” , then press enter and all i get is “Nano not found”. What am i doing wrong?

    • http://lovemynokia.com/ Siraj Soft

Patrick you don’t have nano installed :-( install it via utilities in developer mode under security menu in settings

      • http://www.nikrolls.com/ Nik Rolls

Or use vi which is built in: vi /usr/share/accounts/services/twitter-share.service’

Press ‘i’ to get into developer mode, make your changes, then press ‘Esc’ and type ‘:wq’ to write and quit. Note the colon.

        • http://conversaciones.nokia.com JCAnez

Hello Nick. When I enter your command it somehow-does-something because the cursor changes from ~$ to >

But, what I can’t understand is what you mean by pressing ‘i’ to get into developer mode.

          • http://www.nikrolls.com/ Nik Rolls

Sorry — I accidentally put a quote on the end of the first line … you don’t need that.

By pressing ‘i’ I mean pressing the ‘i’ key on the keyboard — this will get you in to ‘insert’ (edit) mode (not developer mode … I must have written this half asleep!)

      • http://twitter.com/Patje1968 Patrick Prinzie

Thx my friend, it works now. Just shared a picture straight from the gallery on twitter. I’m kind of proud of myself that i was able to do this because i have no programming skills at all.
This should be a standard function on the N9. Thx for sharing.

      • http://conversaciones.nokia.com JCAnez

Hello Siraj… I have the same problem, but I already enter into developer mode, installed everything and reset 3 times the N9.

I’m on Developer Mode ON and everything in place but it says also “not found”. I have PR 1.1
